Google's AI Content Guidance: What Creators Should Actually Check

Jul 22, 2026

Google's guidance focuses on useful, accurate content and spam policies, not a ban on AI assistance. No word list or heading formula guarantees rankings.

There is no reason to invent a new “AI rule” each year. Start with Google's published guidance and distinguish a documented policy from an SEO opinion.

AI assistance is not the only question

Google's generative AI content guidance discusses accuracy, quality and relevance. Review the work itself: does it answer the reader's question, and can its important claims be checked?

That does not mean every generated page will be indexed or rank. Search eligibility, indexing and ranking are different outcomes.

Avoid scaled content without value

Google's spam policies describe scaled content abuse. Multiplying near-identical pages to target keyword variations is not made useful merely by changing headings or translating the same weak answer.

Apply the distinction

A guide with an original, reproducible example and meaningful limitations serves a reader. Many interchangeable pages that send the reader to the same generic paragraph offer much less reason to exist. Evaluate purpose and substance rather than treating a particular page count as safe.

Review the visible page and its metadata

Check the title, description, headings, citations and structured data against what a visitor actually sees. A schema claim should not promise material missing from the page. Do not update a modification date solely to make an unchanged article look new.

Use a repeatable release check

Confirm the page can be fetched, its canonical points to the intended URL, and its indexing directive matches the publication decision. Then review content separately. Technical correctness cannot turn unsupported advice into a useful article.

For a concrete example of bounded claims, read our methodology and try formatting cleanup. Cleaning text changes formatting; it does not prove authorship, satisfy a search policy automatically or guarantee a ranking.
